My computer is on it's last legs. It is dying a slow death and before it gives up for good and I lose everything on it, I need to replace it. I currently have a laptop PC. Everyone who has a MAC always raves about it, so I am considering switching. I use my computer mostly for photo and graphic work, word processing, and internet. If you are reading this, could you please give me some advice? Thanks!
What do you LOVE or HATE about your PC or MAC?
and
What do you use for photo editing on a MAC? (I currently use Photoshop Elements - can you use it on a MAC?)

We my Hubby and I have always had Macs and I have converted most of my family even my elder parents! You will LOVE it, Make a change (:

All I can tell you is that my son, who knows computers inside and out, would LOVE to have a MAC but he won't spring for the extra cost.
Me, I have a PC but everyone I know who has a MAC is crazy about it.
I love our Mac...for internet. But, if you do a lot of photo stuff and word processing, you won't like it. Macs don't have good programs for that stuff. iPhoto, is o.k. and will do basic editing. I have all my photos on our Mac just because my old PC is not reliable. Their word processing program is crap. You won't like it compared to Microsoft's programs. If you like Adobe's programs, you can load them to the Mac and then you'll be set. If your photoshop program is compatible for Mac then you can load that to the Mac.
I really want a MacBook and when I get one I'll buy extra photo and wordprocessing programs to put on it.
I have a mac. I think we talked about this when I first got my computer earlier this year, but I didn't use a pc and didn't enjoy using a pc, but have been a computer convert since buying my mac. I don't do much photo editing so I can't be much help there, but everything i do for the blog, I can do with iphoto which comes with the computer. I bought at Best Buy and a mac guy is there once a week so you can ask free questions after purchase. No deals though, initially expensive, but I love it. xo Joan
I beg to differ with the Blue Plum.. if you are doing graphic work, photo editing or any digital design MAC is the way to go all the way. I daresay nearly all graphic professionals (including magazines) are Apple based..
so let me shout from the rooftops
MAC.. once you go MAC you'll never go back.
I think all MACS run dual platform now which means that if you have PC software you can run it on a MAC and MACS can run Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, etc. I use them all and as you know I send you documents that you can open.
You can run any Adobe program on PC or MAC so that covers all graphic/ photo editing programs...
Let me know if you have any questions.
I LOVE MY MAC!!!
Thank you so much for the kind words- you brightened my day/
I have a pc and i've had no problems with it, however I would have definitely have gotten a Mac if it was in the price range. Instead I sprung for a pink pc notebook, but everyone I know that has a Mac loves it.
I have to disagree with Blue Plum also. Thats the craziest thing I've ever heard. Everyone knows that a Mac is the way to go if you are into photo editing or any kind of graphic design. It is the best ~ You will absolutely love it.
I have used pc's all my life. My pc laptop crashed and burned a couple of years ago and I switched to a Mac! I LOVE it! I would probably never buy another PC. I have been using it for almost two years now. I think iPhoto is great for quick photo adjustments and organizing your photos. I use Photoshop Elements (Mac Version) for more detailed photo adjustments and graphic work. You can also auto backup to an external hard drive which eliminates the worries of losing anything. I say go for it and buy a Mac...I think you will love it! I have the 24" iMac.
You guys are the greatest! I am SO appreciative of everyone sharing their advice and useful input on this decision. Sounds like Mac is the way to go!

I will chime in here {late} and say for graphics, Macs are the best. I finally got a PC because of the storage I needed, and I love it, but I mostly work on my computer vs. graphics and photo work.
I switched from a PC to an iMac (24") last year. Overall the Mac is intuitive and easier to use than the PC. I use Photoshop Elements for Mac which is great for digital art work. However there are a few issues you'll deal with when switching to the Mac:
1. Internet and emails show up in a smaller font size, which you can change but it was an annoyance for me at first, always having to reach for my reading glasses :)
2. My HP inkjet printers did not work well with the Mac so I finally bought a Canon to get the quality prints I wanted (I print a variety of graphics on card stock).
Hope this helps!
I was a PC up until a year ago, now I'm a MAC and I would never go back. Yes, there is a learning curve because you will be dealing with a whole new operating system, but......you can have a one-on-one class once a week at a Apple store. You just sign up for $99.00 a year and you can have a class once a week for a year - and the Genius are so knowledgeable. You can even get classes in photoshop, digital photograpy, etc. The IMovie 9 and IPhoto 9 are incredible. Things are just so much easier with a MAC. I also have an Iphone which didn't play nice with my PC, but works GREAT with my MAC. So there you have it. I'd bite the bullet and make the switch. Hope this helps.
Well, my Mom has a Mac and loves it. I didn't end up getting one myself, mostly because of the expense. If you do go the pc route, I have a sony vaio and it is the closest to the mac as any others. (even the keyboard is the same...and of course, mine is pink, LOL)

Jeanne, I was going to say the same thing as Cindy. Get an external harddrive and put all your stuff on it. I pay the $25 per year to have my stuff on Flickr as and added security for my photos and scans. I've never used a Mac, but have been thinking about getting one to try.
Mac girl here Jeanne, GET ONE!! You'll LoVe it, no viruses, no crashing, etc... Get the Mac, Get the Mac, Get the Mac!!!
I use a MAC and a PC at work. I prefer the MAC. My MAC laptop at home never has any issues, but my husband's PC takes forever to update, run virus software, etc. I recommend a MAC if you're short on patience like me. And of course they are excellent for photo editing and graphic work. Yes - you can use Photoshop Elements on the MAC.
