I was up early this morning to get a head start on my Studio Project. Yes, this is my desk....is it any wonder why I have been working at the dining room table lately? Now to be perfectly honest, a lot of the stuff in this picture has been placed there during the organizational and sorting process, so that makes it look even worse than it actually is. But still, it was a pretty much unusable surface.
As it gets closer to sunrise, you can see some progress. . .along with the actual surface of the desk! Ta-da! The desk is now clear, clear and tidy! All ready to work on some cool, new projects...Yay!
The little draw unit above is a piece I bought several years ago from Target. On it I keep my collection of vintage salt shakers filled with glitter, a pink glass goblet filled with tiny paper flowers, a vintage pink glass refrigerator box which holds note paper, a sweet votive holder from Anthropologie and an old Holly Hobby porcelein egg given to me by my mother when I was a child which offers daily dose of inspiration - "The time to be happy is now."
Here is my tool box which sits on my desk and contains my tools of the trade. It's an antique sewing machine drawer adorned with a wooden scroll work piece and painted a heavenly shade of blue, which happens to match the wall paint perfectly.

I've got a question for all of you. . .how to you organize the holiday themed items you use in your creations? Do you keep them separated by holiday or just incorporated them with the every day items or do you do something else with them?
Well, I've got a lot more to accomplish in here, so I'd better get back to work before I lose my momentum!
Oh Jeanne....I NEED to do this badly. The thought of it is so daunting I keep working in my 10x10 square inch space and feel like the world is caving in on me! Not good for the creative spirit. If only I had more than 2 hours a day to myself.....if only. Next year Jackson will be in school FULL TIME! Yay! But, I certainly need to organize before then. Thanks for the inspiration. I LOVE your studio. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteJeanne...it looks great! Doesn't it feel so good to get it organized! I always feel a surge of creativity when I get organized. It's usually because I find all sorts of hidden surprises under all the mess! That and I finally have more space than 2" in which to create! :)

Jeanne, Looks great, want to come do my space:)
ReplyDeleteI think it's in the air...a lot of people getting organized in Blogville. For me it's the weather~it just gets so hot down here that when fall finally breaks, that crisp air gets under my skin and gets me going!
ReplyDeleteI lurked through all of your "people who inspire" yesterday. So many truly talented people out there~I am in awe*!*
Thanks for the tip on Corey's book...she has a signed one for me~Yippee! Thanks for ALL of your inspiration!
Dianna
Oh Jeanne when you are done with yours will you come and organize mine?
ReplyDeleteYou will need to bring a bull dozer....it looks like a tornado went thru there! lol
I am getting a lot of great ideas from looking at your pics!
Thanks toots!
Hugz, Dolly
Oh Jeanne I think I need you at my house!!
ReplyDeleteYou have done a fabulous job. BUT what will happen when you start your 1st project or even your 2nd? By the 3rd will it all look like your before photo? I know my workspace would be the before photo.
Alison
So sorry to do this to you but...*tag*:)
ReplyDeleteYou are on my *check everyday* list so it was going to happen sooner or later. I'm sure you are out of "things" to list by now!
Check my blog if you want to *play*.
Thanks!
Dianna
Now for my desk? Your's looks so nice!!
ReplyDeleteWOW..You did a great job of organizing!!! You asked about organizing holiday stuff... I get these clear plastic 14 x 14 (or so, they are made to hold 12 x 12 paper) containers made by IRIS from Michaels (they sell them in the scrapbook section). I keep my christmas themed stuff in one, and my valentine themed stuff in another. Things like papers, printed images, ribbon, stickers, rub ons, etc (but not rubber stamps). I tend to make extra images, so if I have left overs, I just put them in there for later. BTW, I love your cool sewing drawer!
ReplyDeleteOh, forgot to mention that I have quite a few of these plastic containers and I use them to save all my paper scraps. They are kinda-sorta saved by color-families, then one devoted to vintagy papers, another for cardboard (that I use for some collage bases or to add strength to things). I also have one that I use for millinery flowers...you get the idea. Unfortunately they are stacked in rows on the floor of my office. I hope re-do a closet so I can start getting a bit more organzied.
